Home Decor: Winter Rustic
Cold has finally made it’s way to Texas! I can’t say I really like cold weather, but it does get me more in the spirit for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all things cozy! Also, the decorating bug has officially bitten me. We moved in to a new house, and I’ve been spending a lot more time on home decor sites and pinning a little too much pretty decor on my Pinterest. It has me majorly inspired, and since Modern Rustic decor is my favorite, I figured it’d be fun to put together some items in that theme. My definition of Modern Rustic is mixing decor that’s more current with nature inspired pieces. And because of the cold weather moving in, I wanted to add a winter-y vibe to it too. Especially since I’m kind of obsessed with deer, reindeer, antlers, etc. However, the great thing about this set is you can remove the reindeer pillow and add some darker colored pillows and accents, and have it fit a more year round theme. I’m having a reeeeally hard time resisting the urge to buy every single item on this list!

Weekend Snapshots…And A Colorful Cupcake How To
I got little bit of happy in the mail this weekend…
New H&M bubble gum pink pumps from 1 bestie…
You can find them here.
Speaking of H&M…have you heard they will have online shopping for U.S. on their site this Fall?!! To say I’m excited would be an understatement…
And I made a little bit of happy for my other’s bestie’s birthday…
Colorful Cupcakes
Here’s how I made them:
Nothing fancy for the batter. I just used a box of Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix (following the ingredients on the back). I then divided the batter evenly between 4 bowls and added neon gel food coloring. (Pink in one bowl, purple in the next, orange in the next, and teal in the last bowl) In my experience, I’ve found that gel food coloring works WAAAY better than normal food coloring! Once all the colors were mixed, I placed the liners in a cupcake tin, took an ice cream scoop and did a spoonful of pink, then a spoonful of purple. It should be about 2/3′s full. Then in another lined cupcake tin I did a spoonful of orange, and then a spoonful of teal. Baked at 350 for about 18 minutes.
While the cupcakes cooled, I put a healthy helping of frosting (Betty Crocker Fluffy White Frosting) in two different bowls. Added pink gel food color to one bowl, purple to the other. I put the bowls in the fridge for a few minutes to let it firm up a little that way it went on the cakes a little easier.
And then voila! This cake batter makes yummy cake all by itself, but I’m a firm believer that pretty bright colors makes EVERYTHING better.
Wishlist Wednesday: Mother’s Day
I decided to do a different kind of Wishlist this week. Since Mother’s Day is this upcoming Sunday, and I just so happen to be a mommy, I was thinking of things I’d like around the home. The mixer is definitely a wish. They are so very expensive, but oh how they would make baking easier! However, the dishes are a definite need. I’ve been using the same dishes for over 10 years now, and replacements are way overdue. I love how simple and modern this Target set is. And I must talk about how fabulous this teacup stand from Etsy is! You could use it as a candy or food tray for parties, OR even for your jewelry or makeup on your vanity. Very multifunctional. Plus, I’m obsessed with teacups. So obviously it was love at first sight.
